Another tire thread

I'm researching the replacement of the tires on our V3200. Did you guys realize that the ACTUAL weight of these things exceeds most E rated 10 ply tires. I weighed our voltage when it was completely loaded and saw 6780 pounds on the front axle and 6700 on the rear axle. The factory weight claims are way off, these pigs are heavy. I wanted to switch to Michelin XPS ribs but the 3042 lb max isn't even close. To have any kind of an extra 10-15% fudge factor G rated tires are about essential.

Unfortunately it looks like I'm obligated to go with Goodyear G614's. I'm sure they're good tires but damn expensive.

Yeah they are expensive. I put 6 of them on my 3905. Unfortunately they are allot heavier also. I will weigh one of my OEM tires I have sitting out in the yard. I think I can get a weight of the G614 online. And see how much weight my little piggy gained.

Yeah I noticed that on one of the websites I was looking at. I think th G614 is about 60 pounds and the Akurets are like 35.

Thanks for the information. You saved me some work. Looks like I just gained another 150 pounds or so.

Bulldog... question: How did you measure your trailer weight per axle?

The 3200 has a GWR of 16,500 lbs. The axles are rated for 7,000 lbs. each for a total of 14,000 lbs.

At first glance, it appears the axles (and tires) are not up to the task... but you have to remember that about 20% of the rig's gross weight will be placed on the 5th wheel of the tow vehicle. 20% = 4,125 lbs... subtracted from the 16,500 = 12,375 lbs... well underneath the 14,000 limit of the axles.

Now... as to the tires, well, that's a whole other subject.

I replaced the cheap stock tires with the G614's for peace of mind. There's a thread on the board here about it:

Those are the weights WITH the trailer connected to the TV. This was done at a Cat scale where I could put each axle on a separate pad. The pin weight is in addition to that 13480 lbs. If you haven't actually weighed your trailer you're going to be shocked.

I think the 7000 lb axles are marginal.

Bulldog,

Check out these guys Gladiator: QR35-TR Trailer Service. They make a 235/85R16 Load Range G.

I left home in BC on Aug 22, heading to Newfoundland. Had a set of Powerking ST's on the trailer, by the time we got to Newfoundland my wonderful Dexter Axels managed to shred the right side tires to the point that the wear bars were showing. (A total of 4200 miles.)

I put on the Gladiators in Deerlake NL, the trip continued across NL then to Dover DE and home through Kentucky and Tennessee 6000 miles.

The Gladiators show there same wear pattern as the Powerkings, but still have about 50-60% of the rubber left. I have no doubt that I could make it back to NL with the Gladiators.

I paid half the price of the G614s and I am pretty sure that the Goodyears could not have done any better. The only thing that I like about the G614s is the fact they are made in the USA.

Now i have to find some place to get the axels bent back into alignment. Anybody know of a shop in BC that can do axel work?

235/85r/16 tires

Good day, does anyone know if a 235/85r/16 will fit on a 3200 voltage? The original tire size is a 235/80r/16. It's only 3quarters of a inch difference but one I buy the tires ....I own them.

Thanks
chris
