Air Conditioner Issues

Last year my front A/C began popping the breaker. I went through all of the suggested fixes (clean interior filter, clean coils, replace breaker) and none of them worked.

While connected to shore power, the A/C will run for a bit and shut off, when it goes to start back up, there is a noise almost like when the compressor kicks on but a bit louder. And the fan does not appear to be kicking on. When I adjust the thermostat to run the fan for a few minutes then kick to to cool, it will continue working for a while. I can also reset the breaker and it will, on occasion, continue to work for a while. I seems completely random as I cannot associate the tripped breaker with any other event.

I ordered a Supco SPP6E Hard Start Kit yesterday as this seemed to be the only other thing I could attribute the issue to based on my Google investigative efforts. Fingers crossed that it works.

Has anyone else experienced something similar? If so, what did you do to correct the problem?

When I removed the AC from the top of my Voltage to tape up the leaky ducts, I noticed that the electrical wire feeding the AC has quick-connects. I'm guessing Dutchmen figured this would save their installers a few precious seconds, at the risk of only burning down a handful of RVs (this is of course speculation). The problem with the quick-connects is that they don't make very good contact. Now I'm not an electrician, but the way I understand it is that bad contacts cause a drop in voltage, which causes an increase in amperage. This could be causing your breakers to trip. It is also a safety issue as the increased amperage can cause the quick-connect to heat up, melt, and start a fire. So if you continue to have the issue, you might consider replacing the quick-connects with wire nuts.

Thanks. I'll look at this as well so I can eliminate it as a possibility.

Those quick connections if they look like telephone connector it is the thermostat.

You are correct. However, I'm referring to the quick connects on the romex (electrical) wires.
