3605 or 3985? any info will help

My wife and i are looking to buy a toyhauler to live in while building our house. looking at a 3605 2016 for about 60k or a 3985 2014 for 50k any thoughts on resale ? hoping to keep it to about 10k loss in a year if when we sell. any info will help or things we should look for . thanks in advance

You'll lose close to 50% as soon as you sign the papers...

Then you'll level out for a couple of years, followed by about 10%-15% loss per year after that.

My thoughts to you:

If you are looking to sell the Toyhauler after the house is completed...then buy one like the Voltage Epic 3800...the key feature...a 14 ft garage.

UTV machines are getting bigger, which means longer as well as wider and taller. So having a garage that will fit the new models will be a great selling point.

There are a lot of folks out there pretty disappointed to find the new 121" machines will not fit in their 10 ft garage...which was the standard for years!

The depreciation hit is going to be pretty brutal on a new unit. I would consider looking for a gently used one, especially how you only plan to use it for a year. Also that way hopefully all the bugs have been worked out of it. Many (notice I DID NOT say all) owners spend the first year getting the warranty issues of a new unit worked out.

In 2014 my wife and I were also debating a new 3605 vs a used 2013 3895. We decided on the 3895, and due to unforeseen circumstances ended up living in it for all of 2015. Having had a chance to walk through a 3605 after we had been fulltiming showed us that we had made the right decision. The 3605 would have been too small, even though it's just the two of us, and we would have been trying to deal with all the warranty claims. With our used unit all I needed to do was catch up on maintenance not performed by the previous owners (adjust brakes, lube everything, clean and re-seal roof, etc.). I also spent my spare time and money upgrading all the features found in each new model year 3895, such as the theater seating and coded entry door locks. We bought our unit for half the new model MSRP, the only danger being no warranty. In the end I feel we made the right choice. We're back in a sticks and bricks home, but have very fond memories of that time, and still look forward to camping trips throughout the year.
