Well, I have the doors. Went over and picked them up this morning. Now the "fun" of trying to figure out if I've got the tools & know-how to install them. Ha!

I looked at the setup the previous owner had on his (long story, but he ended up with TWO sets!), and it seems here will be a lot of measuring and a few modifications required (metal trimming, shifting the Happi-Jak bunk forward on the rails a few inches, etc)

Fun, fun, fun...

EDIT:
I did manage to find the install manual online... Hope that makes things easier!

Going to take the patio doors out of our 14' Voltage 3800.

Never used them, don't figure on using them, and those few more inches of garage might come in handy when our Polaris General Deluxe shows up!!

Thanks... and, hey, if you get bored, feel free to come over and help me with the install. Maybe we can talk Sundancer_87 to drive over from Tahlequah too! Ha!

install instructions can be found on the Lippert website, that is where I go mine. biggest issue is the height of the interior of your rig, 101" or 107". hope they are the right height if not you're going to have a problem.

Yeah, that was the one issue I had about buying them when I saw the ad. This kit is for the 107" high ceiling, whereas mine is in the 101"-103" range. However, the only parts that tall are the side rails, as the header piece is adjustable for height... and the doors themselves are the same on all kits (or so I've been told).

So on Monday I'll go find a local machine shop, and have them cut the side rails down on a band saw.

if you measure the header with the doors, you will realize you will also need to cut it down. It actually comes in two sizes, we know because the first kit ordered for us was the shorter one and we needed the taller one, so new header and new rails, there was 6" differnce in the header height. and we are getting ready to throw out the shorter rails and the header.

be careful that they only cut the flat edge of the rails, one end is tapered for the slant in the floor..

Began the install project today...

Got a late start this morning, but first step was to take the side rail to a local machine shop to have them cut down with a band saw. Got back to the rig and began measuring & marking for mounting holes. Since I want these solid, I drilled holes every 10"... alternating each side of the "H" slot in the rail.

I used wall anchors & screws like these to secure them into the walls:

After that, it was just making sure I had the required offset from the inside of the ramp door jam (they require 1 ½"... I gave it 2"), and then making sure the plumb was straight. 30 minutes later, both rails were hung.

The header piece is another story. :/

As sgtbarby stated, it too needs to be cut. My ceiling night is 103"... the door height of 86" + header height of 20" puts me at 106". Time to go to work.

The header piece is like a picture frame, with a thin sheet metal panel as the "picture". I removed the screws from the frame, and removed the short side pieces. Giving myself some leeway, I've decided to remove 4" instead of the required 3.

So I marked the 2 short side frame pieces that need to be cut... and of course, I'll, also need to trim 4" from the height of the sheet metal panel. I'll take them to the machine shop tomorrow and get that done.

So that's it after Day 1... stay tuned.

Tom,

Where did you find the metal wall anchors? All I can find around here are the plastic anchors.

Would like to have a little stash of the metal ones.

Thanks,

Pirate

Lowes sells them... Home Depot too, I think. They're called E-Z Ancor Stud Solver Drywall Anchors. About $8 for a pack of 20.

I like em because they're just the right length to not go through the exterior wall (at least, on my rig), and they hold pretty well. I've used them for just about all of my mods & improvements.

Day 2...

Took the short side frame prices to get trimmed... then used a pair of tin snips to cut down the sheet metal part of the header. Reassembled it, and got to work.

Just a cursory look at where the header was going to placed against the ceiling told me I was going to need to remove a lighting fixture. That done, getting the header into place was easy. Getting it to stay in place by myself so I could secure it to the side rails wasn't. Just that part ate up 2+ hours.

Header then in place, I inserted the lower header bar as per the instructions... followed by one of the doors, and then the other. After a couple of tests for fit, I secured the bottoms to the side rails, and then the top.

The photo below shows the doors in place, but not yet fully secured. Obviously, some adjustments need to be made, but I'll tackle that tomorrow. The biggest issue I see right now is that the left door (as looking at the photo) is sitting about a ½" lower than the right. Both doors are plumbed straight with the level, and flush to the floor... so I guess that's not even.

Maybe if you go to the right side of the trailer and push really hard to the left, that may square things up a bit.

I noticed after installing my washer a couple weeks ago that the floor doesn't sit level. It somewhat flexes in a couple of places...it's all good though, it can hold 2500 lbs, right?
