On the subject of slide toppers, My unit came with them installed. Thought this was a good feature. Most of the time it is. In west Texas there is a lot of wind, and it causes the toppers to pop and beat against the slide out. Not good for sleeping. I have worried about them being torn but don't really have a solution. Maybe someone else does?

Blow up a small inflatable beach ball and place it under the topper - just make sure it is snug enough to not blow away!

Hopefully this was just a one off situation. But make sure you check your roof!!!!
I picked it up and in Ohio and by the time I got to Minnesota to camp for the first night I turned on the heat and the heat only worked in the bathroom. Turns out the bass box did NOT get secured. Once I opened up the compartment access panel it looked like the bass box was just tossed in there (NOT SECURED) need this to say that unsecured bass box just bounced around while driving and literally ripped the heater ducts off the furnace. It's been a real pain in the rear getting it repaired.
Do yourself a favor take a screwdriver with you with the square bit and take the 15 to 20 minutes it takes to take that panel off and insure your bass box is secured!!!
Our bass speaker was melted from punching through the duct work. If would not have found it when I did, we could have been filing an insurance claim!

I am getting ready to install my slide toppers myself. Finally got all the parts from the dealer just recently (bought them back in March). Anyone else install them before? Any pointers or do nots?

Yep... I've got an inflatable raft type thing like you'd use in a backyard pool that I slide in between the main slide-out & topper when I'm in one place for awhile to keep rain water from puddling & sagging it.

Something similar should work to stop the flapping...

I believe they make a tension system for the toppers, not sure if it is add on or you have to buy the topper with it already installed. I know my Cardinal LE had them and it did a pretty decent job of keeping things tight. I know there is some adjustment in the tension on the roller.

I know my slide topper came with an automatic anti billowing device. (Dometic).

Thanks ya'll. I'm pretty sure there is a tension device on these because they roll back up with the slide. Maybe I can adjust them somehow. Will take a look and see when I have time.

I had my dealer price out installing slide toppers on my 3950. The problem I saw was that the kitchen slide topper would be soooo big that it wouldn't be taut enough to do it's job and it would end up laying on top of the slide out itself.

It was suggested not to even put topper on the kitchen slide out so at that point, if I'm not putting one on all of them, why put a topper on some of them.

orangecrush - I contacted my selling dealer and Dutchmen about the kitchen slide topper on my 3950 when I was pricing them - they both said that they would not even entertain installing one on the kitchen slide as there was not enough room between the slide and the awning to have any runoff angle at all and water, etc would just gather there.

Yup, that was my point…. At that point, I figured if I was going to leave a topper off the largest slide, what was the point of doing the others?

No toppers for me.

The largest slide on my 3950 is the living room. I have that one and the bedroom slide with toppers. The kitchen/galley is under the main awning on mine.
