2013 3800 Big Slide

W00T W00T!!!

My big slide has been deployed for over two years through Oklahoma wind and rain storms, snow, trees shedding leaves and things, sun and neglect.

After a few prayers to the RV and Schwintec gods and crossed fingers I was ready to push the button, you know the one, RETRACT, or otherwise know as the pucker button.

A few pops and creaks (I thought it was me at first), she started on her homeward bound journey into the guts of the living room. Slow but steady and the trip was finally over. Went outside and looked it over to ensure she was all sealed up. Seals smooshed against the body all plumb and square. A few more minutes of minor pops and creaks and she finally settled in.

Happy camper peeps, until it's time to hit the button again

Ha... been there, done that. Well, almost. That was the same reaction I had 2 weeks ago after sitting in NC for almost 7 months.

So, where are you off to? Or was this just a maintenance test?

Picked up a three month gig in New Zealand, remodeling a bathroom of all things.

I thought many times about 'just checking' the operation but I couldn't bring myself to do it just for jollies, had to wait for when it was a real deal.

After having a slide not retract on the morning we were leaving, I now test a few days in advance of leaving if the slides have been deployed for an extended time. We've been camped in one spot in FL just off the ocean for seven weeks. I ran the slides in and back out yesterday, in prperation for leaving tomorrow. I'd rather have a few days to deal with any problems. Ever tried to get an onsite RV tech on a weekend?

Fingers crossed when it comes time to pull up stakes tomorrow, all will go smoothly.

Operating these slides is like the old mechanic's adage, 'just one more turn before it breaks'.
