Furnace Question

I recently purchased a 2004 Dutchmen Classic model 28RK, 5th wheel and have a question about the furnace from Dutchmen owners. The furnace is in the basement with the air return from the cabin area under the entertainment center. It seems to me that the furnace would draw a lot of air from a cold basement and not be very efficient. Is this typical or has this furnace been modified?

My furnace seems to work fine. I'm really not sure if it draws in air from the basement. It does draw in air from under the step to the bathroom.

What I really don't understand is why there is not a filter on the return air. I have looked and looked and can not find a filter.

I don't see why you can't retro a filter behind the stair openings. I closed one of the openings off and it didn't make any difference in out flow of heated air.
