Slide Top Flap Gap

Greetings All,

We have a slide with a small gap (1/8 to just shy of 1/4) on the top of our slide and since it doesn't actually touch the slide we arw concerned as we have not had it put yet.

It does seal ok against the side...just concerned about the gap.

It's new and under warranty, take it to the dealer.
I can watch the flaps on my slides move one way when the slide is extended and then flip the other way when the slide is retracted. That's the way it should work, a seal at all times.
It looks to me the seal isn't low enough so the slide won't wipe it out so it can ride on the roof and seal it.

We contacted the dealer and they say its just the wiper seal and says that the bubble seal is fine and is actually what keeps the water out. Your thoughts folks?

The dealer gave it a look over the phone?
Why would there be a wiper if it isn't supposed to touch something so it can wipe.

The bubble seal is located on the inside edge of the slide itself. In your photo that seal is not doing a thing because it's resting in the air. It does seal when the slide is closed but not when it's open.
If you want dealer satisfaction you'll want to take the unit there and get in someone's face. In actuality the dealer washed his hands of you when the paperwork was signed.

Agreed. Sadly I did the walk around and missed it myself. Was so focused on the roof and edges and totally didnt see it until Imleft. Well, they know I have a syndicated podcast and video series that the dealer may or may not be the focus of...depending on the outcome.

Sadly I had all things addressed before I left the lot and missed this...shame on me.

I think the wiper flap is screws on the end and flap just slides into a track but not 100% sure...if that is the case I can order a longer flap and do it myself if needed...sadly.

Podcast, the ole dealer should wouldn't like to be that cast's subject.

We all miss something and it does happen. They are like Disneyland, takes days to cover it all and still miss something.

Dealers like easy fixes and this is not as simple as replacing a part. I am not surprised they are trying to keep you away.

I say bring it in and get it documented/looked at. When they tell you to come back another time for the repair in a couple of months when they have an opening you will hopefully have used it enough and maybe water tested it so see if it actually leaks. Then you can decide how hard to work to resolve it.

Probably not likely a major problem and if out of warranty I might not bother because my slide is rarely open in the rain as I live in So Cal and don’t full time but you never know.

Just a wiper seal? Ask them what keeps the rain and bugs out when the slide is out for camping. What a tool. It should be long enough to drag on the roof, something is obviously wrong.

What a great experience I have had so far with Camping World of Sherman TX. From the sale to the service they have jumped right on everything. No hard sales, No financing pressure, and No service hassle. So far so good!

Consider yourself in the minority. We are all happy for you. Most dealers stop doing much after they deliver the RV to you. You found a good one.

Whoop..Whoop.....Camping World of Sherman TX came though and the replacement seal arrived quickly and they have called me to keep me updated every other day. Said it will be all ready next week. Awesome service from Thor Manufacturing and Camping World.

Well, about 2 weeks later and new slide wiper seal arrived and when they went to put new wiper on they noticed what the real problem was. The slide was lower (sloping) to one side just enough to make that slight gap in the wiper seal. So now they are in touch with the manufacturer "Thor Manufacturing" as to how to resolve the issue.

Not really Camping Worlds issue but sucks to buy something and 4 weeks later still can't use it.

Well, the issue was never resolved and well you guessed it. Water came in under that flap. Now, I have to figure out how to fix this flap myself since we placed our camper on a full time lot and can't really move it now. I am thinking of buying a flap, cut it down to what I need and rubber cementing it to the existing flap to get it at least down to the slides surface.

Yes, I know taking it to a dealer is best but not an option at this point.
