What is the general feeling on using slide out support jacks? Pros & Cons?

IMHO if the slide out is designed properly there shouldn't be a need for them. I would think they would do more harm than good, if you have the supports and the main trailer settles (which it will) then the slides would be under excess pressure.

I was told by the place where I bought mine that if you use supports you void any slide warranty.

Question, which supports are you guys talking about? Because if is the ones I use, I really want to know how the heck is going to void any warranty, and how the dealer is going to know it. This is the one I use and I love it because feels a lot better when my kids are "eating/playing" in the dinette which is the slide out.

Doesn't make any sense for my why is going to void any warranty, mostly because they don't left any mark. Of course, you just put a littlebit of pressure to just stay in place, you should not put any torque at all because is going to raise your slide out and then is going to screw up something which totally make sense that voids the warranty.

If we are not talking about the same thing please disregard this post ;-)

Slide Supports

While I don't have them, I'm thinking warranty void would be due to the support holding up the slide and then either the jacks and/or tires settle, leaving an abnormal amount of weight resting solely on the support, bending rails, brackets, etc. Just my thought.

Colopr, I think I'm with you on this.

I might be the rookiest RV'er here, but it's obvious when it comes to taking care of your RV investment, nobody, especially the manufacturers, care more about YOUR RV than you. It sounds like you are taking logical consideration of the forces at play and actually guarding AGAINST damage.

Dutchman isn't there camping with you. They aren't the camping police. Jaja.

For me, warranty coverage is second to ME looking out for my purchase. Dutchman got the money. I get the RV.

In my opinion some things are just common sense. The idea of those "supports" (at least the one I have and showed) is NOT to lift the slide out, is NOT to put pressure by any mean in the slide out area, they act like the jacks all RV's have to stabilize the unit and avoid the jumping feel when someone walks in the coach. Honestly if someone tells me that those "supports" affect something I will understand that the jacks also affect something.

My intention with those supports are not to change the dynamics of the RV, are only to make the RV more stable. Come on, let's say that you have a slide out that opens about 4-5 feet and one guy in his 300-400 pounds walk in that area you are not going to feel it? And that is not going to mess up something in the Slideout? Well, like I mention before, my slide out is a u-shape dinette which accommodates about 6 heavy people very easily, that's a couple of hundreds of pounds and you tells me that have something to help with the weight as a support is bad? Heck no, you don't have to be engineer to understand basic physics.

Anyways like everything, some people will like it and find many attributes and other people won't and will find all kind of cons.

By the way, the ones I have are in Amazon with 4.5 out of 5 stars with 77 reviews, so I guess 77 people "voided the warranty"

PD: this reminds me when the seller at Camping World told me that slide out toppers are not necessary and I'm going to have more cons than pros, yeap, they are not going to take care of your RV as you do, you are totally right ;-)

Im not trying to create any controversy, is just that still don't make any sense for me why they are "bad" or "void any warranty" (if is true because sometimes I don't know who I trust more, a seller or a politician)

It might be very well true that Dutchman would void your warranty, regardless of whether it's a valid reason or not. I get that.

But for me, protecting my RV comes before protecting my warranty. I can't camp in my warranty!

Sounds like your protecting against NEEDING the warranty.
Slideout horror stories rank right up there with water leak woes.
At least for me, those are the 2 I will be most vigilant.

Good luck!

No need to get all crazy up in here, it's your camper you can stack anything you want under the slide out, it just won't be covered by warranty If any part of the slide fails and they see little square dents under the floor.

That's just the way it is. I don't make the rules, I just report them.

Slide supports

I use them and they help tons with the bouncing around. Never had any issues with them.

Never use slide supports! The slides are designed to be self-supporting and any movement can put excessive force on the top of the slide.

And besides that is one extra set up and tear down task to perform. And it's totally unnecessary and can certainly damage your slide.

What trailer do you have? Our slide is not level and it doesn't go put all the way and camping world basically said thats how its made and nothing they can about it. Pens roll off the tablw and my pantry doors don't open all the way and bang into the slide. So frustrated!
