Newbie here

New guy here trying to figure out all the TT maintenance requirements/tricks. Two quick questions:
1. Do I need to pour tank treatment into my grey water tank in addition to my black tank?
( When traveling and we get to our destination of choice we experience a fowl mild odof when we enter the TT. i usually will just open windows and vent it out and it goes away) we only flush liquids down the black tank, so I don't think it is residual from that.

2. How do I remove and keep the black streaks off the side panels!?😐

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums!

I use the Geo Method for keeping my tanks clean. Been using it for years and have never had a problem. One thing that does happen is that the water gets slopped out of the P-traps when you are traveling so odors can get inside that way. Adding a bit of water to the drain and ventilation is the quick way to fix that issue.

As far as black streaks... let me know whey you find a solution!

Thanks for quick response.
I will have to YouTube the Geo method, and I was afraid that would be the response to the black streaks. Lol

Within a month of owning mine, I had a black streak down each side from the gutters. I've tried a couple things with no luck.

Be careful of Magic Eraser on Gel-coat as it can dull the surface. From experience.

We tried the (rather expensive) gray tank deodorizers which didn't do a thing. Just flush with fresh water now-and-then and dump often. Black streaks: mix 1 part of Windex to 3 parts water and use a soft bristle brush. Comes right off.

Stinky air

Gray water refers to kitchen, lavatory, and bath water. Black water refers to toilet water.
Black water stinks a lot. Gray water usually does not stink if you empty the tank frequently. However, food or other biologic you rinse into the gray tank can rot and stink.
Solution:
First, make sure the traps in your sinks and showers have fresh water in them. The water in the traps prevents air from the tank coming into the living area.
Second make sure the vent for the gray tank is working. If it is plugged, pressure can build up and vent through the water or suck the water out of the trap. Some TT's vent through the roof. Some vent through flap valves near the sink or shower. Some TT's do both.
Third, you can put waste water treatment in the gray tank. It is better to get the traps, flaps, and vents working.
Fourth, Air moving over the roof vent can suck air out of the tanks. That can suck water out of the traps allowing future air from the tanks to vent into the cabin. The fitting on the roof vent may be missing, damaged, or plugged.
Fifth, if it really stinks bad, it is probably the black tank that is leaking air into the cabin. It has the same leaking air issues the gray tank has except it usually does not have a trap under the toilet. A leaking toilet valve replaces the trap and there is probably a roof vent and may be combined with the gray tank roof vent.

Why can't you put waste water tablets in the grey tank? I know they make grey water tablets as well, but don't know why you couldn't drop a black tank tablet in your grey tank?
