My Electrical Management System Installation

I decided to hardwire a Progressive Industries Electrical Management System into the entertainment center of my Denali 289 RK. This is where the shore power comes into the trailer. It's like Grand Central Station in there so rather than try to find a spot to mount it by force-fitting it in with all of the wires and plumbing I just fabricated a mounting frame and installed it just inside the opening. Came out rather nicely I thought. The display is mounted in the shelving area right above the panel covering this area.

Very nice - I have one I will be installing over the winter. Just don't have the dual cabinet like you.

Surge protection and reverse polarity protection. I have a voltmeter hardwired into my rig and you would be shocked at the range of volatages you get at various campgrounds. Mine was prompted when my grandfathers motor home had several curcuits fried at a campground we used to frequent.

As Donzinger pointed out an electrical management system can protect your RV's electrical/electronic systems from the bad things that can happen due to lightening, power surges, under/over voltage conditions and miswired power pedestals. I consider it to be a form of insurance.
These are available in portable form which plugs directly into the power pedestal or hardwired directly inside the RV. The good units are kinda pricey ($250) so I'd rather have it inside the RV where it's less likely to "disappear".

The external ones are actually prone to water infiltration too as my grandfather found out.

Nice! I have a similar space but I had mounted a fire extinguisher over it. Maybe I need to rethink that.

Nice job! I thought about doing that. My shore power cable goes into the converter; I don't have the Romex feed that you do. I do have the space next to it. Instead, I opted for the plug-in type. More of a pain, and a couple of padlocks to keep it from walking away. Also, cannot close all campsite pedestals to rain. I may follow your lead. I'll use the power cable as input, and some 10ga Romex to take the power to the converter. (10 ga for a 30 Amp config). Again, nice, clean install!

MartyG - I had a plug instyel given to me that had water intrusion but tested and worked. Until I got a deal on a hard-wired version I could not pass up, I went inside the rig, cut the main power cable, installed cable ends on the cut cable and plaugged in the unit so it was protected from the weather as well as someone who may have wanted it worse than I - just a thought for you.

Also, liiked it in case I needed to remove it form the system, I could just plu the two cable ends into each other and I had an instant bypass.

I use the external. Need to look at my Coleman and see if there is a way to put it inside. I have used them for years and have never had one stolen, nor heard of one being stolen. My biggest problems have been campground pedestals that were too close to the ground or where the receptacles were so worn out the plugs wouldn't stay in. I like the ability to unplug it for a bypass. I have one plug at my house that the unit doesn't like for some reason and I always bypass that one.

I considered doing that too but if I have to bypass the unit I'll use a set of these:
SB50 SB Series 50 Amp Anderson Powerpole Kit
I have the crimper tool to terminate the wires to these connectors. We use them to build our competition robots.
