Levelling

Hey Guy's. Being new to TT life, when we go on our first trip what kind & how much Wood should we carry for Levelling. Don't particulally want to find ourselves rolling out of bed on the first night. Thank's

That question really depends on where you like to camp. We go some places - national forest campgrounds - where you better have at least enough blocks to go 6 inches or so. Other places like the nicer RV parks, we need nothing. Consequently, we leave that 6 inches worth in the trailer all the time - just in case. So I guess the question is, where do you plan to go and how level are the campsites?

Our Walmart has a good RV sections, including these at reasonable prices.

I also keep some wood blocks for hitch, etc......

The leveling blocks light weight, and handy.

This will be the first time using the Lynx levelers, I'm trying to save on weight and they are less than half the weight of a stack of water logged 2 X 8's. For the A-frame jack I'm undecided whether to go plastic or stacked wood, but will probably go with plastic.

Buy a couple of boxes of these and yes, use them for the scissor jacks. After you've leveled it side to side by backing the low side tires over a pyramid of these, lower the jacks close to the ground after putting one of these under each side. One of the jacks will be higher than the other, so stack one or two of these there and finish lowering the jacks. It's quick and easy to do this.
The beauty of these is that they are so thin and offer more adjustment in leveling than wood pieces.

You bet.....glad to help. You will learn SO much your first year....and there is simply no substitute for experience. You'll be helping the rest of us this time next year!!

Look into getting a couple of the caps (we have 4) and 2 of the Stop & Chocks from Lynx as well. The caps work great under the tires.

We have two "bags" of the leveling blocks, don't know the manufacturer's names, but one set is orange in a blue bag and the others are yellow in a black bag. They take up little space and are much lighter than wood. For the trailer tongue, we use one of those drive on trailer jacks that you pull the trailer up on to change the other tire on the same side of the trailer. I like to get multiple use out of any weight we carry, if at all possible.

new to the site and to travel trailers and had a question. one reply said to use leveling blocks under the screw jacks and extra ones on the low side jacks and I've seen it done like this at the campgrounds. if you are on a hard surface what is the advantage vs just screwing the jack down more on the low side?

I use various length of 2 by 8 or 2 10 s and put them the low side of the TT. Depending how much out of level and Then either back or pull the TT on them. Use home made blocks on the 4 corners with my stabilize jacks. Also put stabiizer jacks mid point (under my steps on one side) for a little more stability.

Its basically a larger foot print. The small foorprint of the jacks will push into asphalt on a hot day.

I had to really jack up the front last trip out to get level and later in bed could feel the trailer sway if the dog so much as moved, much less the kids! The owner's quarters is at the very front also so I'm sure that contributed. Would adding extra jacks at the steps and opposite side help with this? Any other suggestions?

Put a screw jack right in front of the front axle on each side, that has worked for us. Others swear by the wheel locks between the tires, I have no experience with that.

I use the wheel locks and they do work very well. Our camper feels very stable.

Make sure you have jacks as opposed to stabilizers. Most TT's use stabilizers which are not intended to jack up the trailer to level.
