Guess I waited too long here...

I was going to replace the spring shackles prior to our next trip. This is what happened as I was putting the rig into storage.

Naw, I just removed the fender for clarity. I was just pulling into my storage site when it happened. I'm seriously happy that it did not happen on the road.
The propane line runs right next to the spring but it wasn't damaged. Whew!

WOWZAA! Good thing it happened there and not on the road. How old is your RV, really, a 2012??

According to the truck's information center, we've put 22,000 miles on the trailer. Since we bought it used we don't really know how many miles are on it. I don't know what should be the expected life for shackles. I guess 22K miles is the limit.

In my little mind, it would seem that you would NEVER need to change them !

Are you going to change them all now? I have the type of axles that move independently of each other, hopefully it will not be an issue but need to get a grease gun and see if there are zerks anywhere under there.

Seems to me that you didn't wait too long, you waited JUST RIGHT!

It doesn't use wet bolts so no zerks.
I've made arrangements for the local RV repair shop to come out next week to lift up the trailer and change them all out.
Oh the joys of RV ownership.

A clearer view of the broken link. Hope the picture doesn't get rotated this time.

Makes me glad we don't have to travel far from home to get to a good campground. Good luck.

***UPDATE***
Well the RV shop sent out a couple of techs to replace the equalizer links on both ends of the same axle. Took them 3 hours. Mostly spent on trying to figure out the best way to jack up the trailer to get the spring eye to line up with the new shackle bolt holes.
Checking on some of the other RV forums I suspect that the technicians who replaced the axle last year somehow dorked up the torque settings for the bolts which allowed the bolts to wear out the holes. I am seriously thinking of taking the trailer to a nearby trailer repair shop to assess all of the suspension components to see what else might be wrong.
Pictures of the broken links. Note elongation of the bolt hole that hasn't yet broken out.

You're very lucky. Mine did the same and I bet we didn't have10000 miles on it. When I took it to the suspension shop their hangers were twice the thickness. Of course, I replaced them and it was just by luck I looked under the unit at the suspension and saw the damage before going out. Now the springs are flat and here we go again.. I imagine I probably have 15 to 16k on the unit now. Talk about a sorry excuse for suspension.
