Black Holding Tank ?

Hi guys, I have had a 192RD for about 2 years now. I was under the unit the other day and can see the black holding tank almost resting on the ft axle. the tank is not loose. It is sitting on its brackets fine and is empty. Has anyone here ever seen this? I did a search on the internet and didn't see anything about this.

Unless there is evidence of the axel striking the tank, then I don't see a problem.

Close, 3/8 of an inch. I can see a light mark on the tank. Seems like a poor design on the engineers Part. I was curious if anyone has this model.

Engineers?

They don't use engineers... costs too much. They use the sales staff to design them. (and no I am not joking!)

I'm going to have to figure out how to make more room between the two.

Are your springs over or under the axle?

Wouldn't surprise me if they installed the wrong axle or put a bigger tank than it's supposed to have.

That sure sounds like they should have have used an axle hung under the springs.

Yes it can be "flipped", but what that really means is you have to weld on a set of spring saddles under the axle then rehang it.

If you are able to remove the axles yourself, a spring and axle shop can weld on the saddles for you. I certainly wouldn't go to an RV dealer, they will just send it out and add 30% to the bill for the priviledge.

Bignos,

Before you go to a lot of trouble, call the customer service and ask them.

It may be it was designed that way or it may have slipped down.

Be sure to have your TT Model and VIN # handy and you want to speak to someone who really knows the answer.

If it is design issue then you have to decide how much of a problem it really is.

Good luck

Or you could just go look at a new one on the RV stealership lot and see if it's the same.

Flipping axles is a very common thing, a lot of campers need that extra 3+" so the tail won't drag on the driveway let downs or because they need extra clearance for backroads camping.

I would first check out new ones on a lot as that might be the way they come. If there hasn't been any signs of the axle hitting the tank you may be worrying about nothing. Axle can be "flipped" which really isn't flipping it. No welding needs to be done just need to get a kit which Spring Kits | etrailer.com has. Son & I did it on his 1995 Wilderness 5th wheel to give him bed clearance for his 4x4. You will see it done more to 5th wheels than TT.

Mike,

I stand corrected, I have never seen that kit before. I have seen some disasters, were guys thing they can jury rig something up. They weren't pretty when the axles decide to do something unexpected, like slide off the springs.

A lot of hunters around my area flip their TT axles so they can get into some of the rougher forest service roads. Less competion for game and they don't have to pack it all the way out of the bush.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
You state that you have had the camper for two years so I assume you have been on several outings with the camper.
If you only have a 'slight' mark on the black water tank after several camping trips, I doubt if you have a problem.

It might not be a problem in the lower 48, but I sure wouldn't want to be dragging a camper around Alaska with only 3/8" clearance between the axle and any part of the under carriage. To me anytime anyting is making conntact with something it shouldn't it's a problem.

Like I said it wouldn't

There's probably more than 3/8" deflection to the bottom of the tank when it's half full.

The OP sounds to me like the type of person that doesn't want it to become a problem. I haven't seen every model of camper on the market, but I know it's been alot of years since I've seen a TT with the axles over the springs. Last I remember was back in the late 80s into the 90's.

Perhaps the axle is right, they may have put a bigger tank in it than should have been installed.

No not referring to those. Those would take cutting off your old ones & welding those in place. The one my son & I installed moves your axles to under the springs which gives more ground clearance.
