Antenna TV

So I cranked my antenna up out the tv in the wall and plugged the coax from wall to tv then turned on the booster and no channels show up? Never done this before so not sure if I'm doing it right. Did works through the durian system in my TT but no channels. Changed from analog to air on the tv and neither did anything. Is this tv just not a digital receiver. Does it need to be?

Question... did you have your tv do a search for channels in the setup menu?

I'm with Tom. We're finding that even if we want to use the RV park cable TV, we have to go through the Sony TV setup and let it search for channels.

Strangely, well, probably not....some RV Parks we have to got through this exercise, others we don't.

Yes ran the search in analog and air per the tv menu. I think it is an analog tv. It was a really cheap sandy I I bought for the kids room. Some years back.

Medic579, even if you didn't have the Antenna connected, the TV should have picked up a couple channels, If you have any portable antenna, try to see if it will pick up any channels, if not, the last thing to check to see if its the TV or wiring, would be to run a wire to another RV , your home, or the TV connection at an RV park

Just to be certain, I use coax from the wall to the tv and then push the little button to turn on the booster right? So does the coax cable connect the antenna to the tv or not. What's the hole that looks like a cigarette lighter plug.

yes the coax cable from the wall should go to the TV and the Lighter plug is for the older TV's that used to run on 12V also, so you didn't have to be plugged in to 120v

If it's an analog TV, you are probably not going to receive much, if anything. Two other things, did you crank the antenna up to raise it off the roof, and did you turn the ring the crank is mounted through to orient the antenna towards where you think the TV station broadcast antennas are? There should be a crank, with a ring around it somewhere inside mounted to the ceiling. Look on the roof for the antenna, it will be under where it mounts, inside the RV. That will improve reception, will need to do another channel scan. If it's an analog TV, you'd do yourself well to pick up a halfway decent digital TV.

Well I put the antenna up again and ran the scan and found 3 channels. Do you need to point the antenna a certain way? Also I didnt have the booster on and I picked up 3 channels. Had to switch the tv to air when it searched?

You need to turn the ring to orient the antenna towards the TV stations antenna(s). Assuming there is a major city area in one direction, and that you have the traditional wing antenna, align the wings so the widest part is facing the direction you think the TV antennas are. Yes, put the booster on when you scan to get the maximum amount of stations.

If you find you use the antenna a lot, and assuming you have the wing antennas, you might want to consider upgrading to a Jack antenna. It will mount on the existing mast, simple as disconnecting the coax, removing the two pins, and replacing the wings with the Jack antenna. When aligning a Jack, the widest part with the black covers on the nubs should face the TV station antenna(s).

And tagging on to aligning the antenna... There's a great app for IPhone users called TV Towers USA that shows you the location of all the tv towers near you, miso you know which way to start off turning the antenna.

Not sure if the app is available for Android users or not...

Tom,

Really cool, thanks. I assume (always dangerous) that one holds their phone/tablet with the screen parallel to the ground, aligns the compass pointer to point to the desired station(s), and then you set your antenna to face the same direction the top edge of the phone/tablet is pointing?
