2014 aspen trail 12v issues

Hello all,

I recently purchased a used 2014 aspen trail 2810bhs from a dealership. Our first camping trip out ended with the battery cables burning up. I was wondering if anyone has had this issue before. My cables burned up just before penetrating into the subfloor. My trailer has a metal junction box attached the frame that shouldn’t be outdoors in the weather. Is this a factory install other trailers have? I was also wondering if anyone has a wiring schematic for this trailer? I have attached photos of the damage. I am currently dealing with the dealership about the damage. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah no, that's not a weatherproof electrical box. It's not impossible the factory didn't install it but that can be rectified.
It appears as if the automotive circuit breakers took a big load and gave up the ghost and died a quick death.

A closer look at the last photo where the cable goes through the floor looks very suspect. I wouldn't doubt if that cable wasn't squashed between the floor and the frame rail or cross member there.

Whatever you had running that needed the 12 volts was more than that mess could handle. What you have pictured did well to hold long enough to make the interior light work.

Someone will come along and no doubt tell you exactly what happened to cause the problem.

Good luck with the dealer and impress upon him that you are very lucky to be alive.

Thanks for the response. Yes in the last picture the cable is smashed and goes outside of the trailer then is smashed again as it comes back in and goes up into the subfloor. This is all definitely from the factory. May have finally rubbed through the cable insulation and finally shorted out.

My 2018 Kodiak cub has the same junction box attached under the front next to the rear of the A frame.

My 2016 kodiak has the same placement of the junction box. I guess I need to start sealing it up.
