To caulk or not to caulk...
that is the question. I was doing my biannual 303'ing of the slideout seals, it seems the roof to metal trim caulk is a little thin so i'm going to dicor it tomorrow.
I see those screws have washers but I also know that flat roofs are only good for one thing, and that's leaking. I'm thinking a little dab of dicor on each one as insurance. Am I nuts or super smart and diligent?

Wouldn't hurt, however it will make it a PITA if you ever need to take them out.
I would back one part way out and see if there is sealant in the threads; if so no caulk on top
If not then caulk them.

Obviously we both have the same slideout.
When I first bought the 213, I knew nothing about RV's.
So I climbed all over and under and around to just see how it was put together. I climbed a ladder and just stared at that roof on the slideout. It IS so flat. It really made me appreciate the fairly large crown in the main roof. And I then understood how cool the full length gutter extrusion was.
Anyways, I just never felt like I could trust that slideout flatness. And maybe I'm just chicken, but it sure seemed like it'd be a disaster if you were out of level.
The gutter gave me an idea. So I measured the length & width of the slide roof. Went down and bought a sheet of aluminum and had one long edge creased at 90 degrees at about 1/4 of an inch in. Climbed up on the ladder and laid that edge in the gutter.
The other long edge overhangs that vertical outside wall "bezel(?)" by about 3 inches. The whole thing is longer than the slide by about 6", thus 3" overhangs on both ends.
Maybe it's overkill. But that roof just looks like it's asking for trouble. Now mine never sees a drop of water or a single acorn.
By the way, mine doesn't have that long black seal attached to the outside bezel like yours. Instead, it has a long sweeper seal mounted to the stationary portion of the RV wall. Did you add that? Or is it further evidence they've never built 2 RV's exactly alike?
Crazy!

That's 100% stock. If you ever get home I would love to see pics of the "gutter' and your outside seal. Crazy how much these change over a few years.

My 3800 came with those screws covered with Dicor. I have cleaned and added more caulk to them and the edge that is held down by those screws.

On mine, that area is covered with what looks like Eternabond.

I went ahead and caulked it, now I can sleep better tonight. I think I missed my calling as a pastry chef.

That does look awesome!
I'm fetching mine to Tennessee someday and do some bartering for your pastry skills.

Your first picture showed what looked like a small opening in the original stuff there where you did the double lay at the front.

It was just a small bubble where the roof didn't glue down, unfortunately I have several of those on the main roof.

slide out
Just get a slide out awning and then you will never have to clean or seal with nasty Dicor roof sealant ever again. That's what I did. They do not cost much and my 13 year old daughter could put it on.

Slide topper
Get the carefree one like I got. It will keep off 99.9% of the rain water and then with all that nasty Dicor lap crap you put on your slide it should be water tight. if you need any help putting it on I can have my 13 year old daughter show you how to install it. I truly do not know why people use that Dicor lap crap anymore? They should just use Eternabond tape and be done with it forever. they did do a real nice job applying the Dicor lap crap. To bad nobody will ever see it but you?

I saw it!
Still brings a smile to my face.
I'd let him do mine even though I do have a roof over the roof.
Although I do like that Eternabond tape too.

My mailbox was the only evidence this is a street, rather than a nice calm kayak river.
Wonder if some of that Eternabond woulda helped?
Sadly, it was 4' deeper the next morning.
I imagine when I get home........

Is the 213 still dry? I can't imagine how bad it is down there, the pictures are horrific.
Be safe.
