Kodiak Express 186E - new owner :)

Hello everyone,
Just purchased a 2013 Kodiak 186E. Can't wait to get out and start camping again. Our 5 year old kiddo is pumped up and ready!

I do have a question and was hoping someone had some input. I'm wanting to mount a small flat panel TV, but I'm a little apprehensive about it. I know the original owners had a tv in it because I can see the screw holes where they had the mount.

My question is, just what is behind this wall that I'm screwing into, and approximately how big is it? There are only about a gazillion wall mounts available out there, and no idea what to get. I don't want to mount something up there and have it fall down during transport.

Any suggestions of pics of existing setups or other advice much appreciated.

If your nervous about mounting a plate there, find all the studs in that area. Grab some oak and stain as close as you can annput that on the wall and mount bracket to that. Check out the Coleman thread. Someone made nice work of one there towards the last pages of the thread. Congrats and welcome !

Nice set-up to start RVing with. Our first was a tent trailer. Your little one will love camping I sure know ours did.

186e TV mount

I had no problem finding the edges of the material inside the wall with a stud finder. I used an articulating mount so you could view from the bed or the sofa. It has been in place for over 1,000 miles with no issue.

I added a string of LED lights to the bottom of the awning track on my 186E. Simple installation with Velcro. The $30 unit off Amazon comes with a remote that allows you to change the color and can even do a show!

Do they run off battery or did you tie into the electric on the trailer?

I have it set up to plug into the outside 110 plug. However, there is a plug to run to 12 volt.

I did. Very easy installation. Basically the same as mounting in a house. I used an articulated mount so it could be angled for front bed viewing. The TV is a 24" model which was the maximum size for the space above the window. I use a Velcro strap around the unit to keep it secure while traveling. Overall we love the camper!

Did you have to mount a base plate onto the studs and then mount the tv mount to that? I cant find any measurements to where any plate is in the wall to mount anything to. Thanks

I used a stud finder to locate the edges of the studs. Don't recall if there was any type of plate behind the wall. The TV mounting plate was screwed on with regular wood screws. Remember to check the length since the wall in not very thick.
