Cleaning Roof

Just wondering what other owners think of walking on the roof to clean it. I have the 2012 Aerolite 285BGHS and really don't see any other way to maintain the roof unless I get up on it. According to sources you have to clean your roof a few times a year or Dicor will not honor your warranty should there be a need to make a claim. Any thoughts on this? The roof cleaning and warranty!

Re: Cleaning Roof

I watched the mechanics walk on the roof to switch out the overhead fan for the 13.5 AC. Seemed like it was standard procedure.

Re: Cleaning Roof

My husband is up on the roof everytime we go camping to clean off the top of the slides.

Re: Cleaning Roof

Great, thanks, I guess there should be no issue with installing a ladder on the back of the trailer either?

Re: Cleaning Roof

As for the ladder, I could not install one on our Kodiak because the supports for it were not installed in the back wall during the mfg process. You might want to check that out first.

Re: Cleaning Roof

Thanks, maybe a portable telescopic ladder will be fine then.

Re: Cleaning Roof

I carry a telescopic aluminum ladder so that I can clean off the slide and tie my dog run rope high enough in a tree to prevent strangulation when I forget that I put it up. Very handy item to have along.

Re: Cleaning Roof

I asked the dealer about walking on the roof, they say they have a big ole boy that goes up on them when in there for maintenance, and that its fine. I still worry about it damaging something though, so far I have been putting a ladder along the side and using a mop to spread the cleaner out, then using the hose to rinse it off, eventually I will have to give in and walk on it to do sealing repairs though.

Re: Cleaning Roof

Call me lazy, but every Fall I have the dealer do the winterizing. That way if something goes wrong it's not my own butt in a sling... Part of their Fall deal is that the dewinterizing in the Spring is free. So I take it back in in the Spring to get it ready. Good thing they are only 20 minutes away. Both times I am there I have the dealer inspect the roof and fix any caulk that needs fixing. Again, if something goes wrong it's not my own butt in a sling...

I clean it twice a year myself and check it while I'm up there too. So far, with this schedule, I have not had any roof issues with my last two (and only two) trailers.

Re: Cleaning Roof

We have a date scheduled at our dealer to do winterizing for us for same reason you said Dave, and I had also thought about having them check the roof for me as well. We are taking it to them a few days after our camping trip to Gettysburg in October.

Re: Cleaning Roof

Best price on telescoping ladders is Acetool.com. I bought the 10.5' model $139 with free shipping. Now I think the 8.5' would have been okay. They weigh about 22 pounds.
