Jellystone RV Park

Hi all,

I was thinking of taking the grand kids to one in Estes Park, CO. Anyone been to one? Interested in any feedback, not just the one in Estes.

Jellystone RV Park

We just went last month to quarryville pa. We had a great time. I wish there was some grass, but it was all fill to level out the spots because of the hills. We decided it would be one to visit againClick image for larger version

I've never been in a Jellystone park that I didn't like, except for one thing...

For those who RV with 'toys', and since each park is privately owned... be sure to check out each park's rules prior to booking. A few of them don't allow motorcycles, quads, side-by-sides, etc inside the park. They must be parked outside the gate.

You can guess how I know this...

We just went to one in Luray Va. It was really nice but as ATCguy stated check ahead. they would not allow any private golf carts. You had to rent theirs even if yours has insurance. No exceptions. I thought that sucked.

We went to on in NE. Ohio (Whispering Hills) in Sept. on one of their BoGo weekends. We had a good time. But I wouldn't go there during the summer when it would be $60 a night. I thing we paid $35 for two nights.

We visit one in KS that used to be a KOA years ago. They are "quirky," and don't all conform to any standard. Some great, some poor. Just don't expect anything by their brand name, and treat them as you would any independent.

Normally we are 90% state park campers. It was probably 25 years since we have gone to a themed campground like Jellystone. The one we went to Whispering Hills Jellystone (NE. Ohio) just switched over 2 years ago. We used to go to the park in the past a few times when they had their BoGo weekend offers as a private campground. We would never go there during the summer peak season at $69 to $89 a night. When we went, to was a Bogo weekend at two nights for $39. so $20 a night for a full service site was nice. My parents came out also and stayed a few more nights. The location in NE Ohio is near the Amish shopping district.
Also at Whispering Hills my son and my did the disc golf, mini golf and table tennis more hours that I would like to remember. So while doing some shopping on Saturday and the activities, we had a good weekend.

We live about 45 min from there. I have never went in the place but it is located about two miles east of Estes Park. Looks like a nice small place. There is a trailer park campground in the town of Estes Park also and is close to the enterance of RMNP.

Colorado440, how bad/good is the drive from Chicago to Estes Park? What is the elevation out there? Long pulls to get to Estes? Thanks

I can't help you out on the drive from Chicago but the base of the mountains is about a Mile High with Estes Park about 7500'

Most of your drive will be on I-80 & I-76. Nice flat interstate roads. Once in Denver it is nothing but up to Estes Park.

Reason I ask is we went to Cherokee,NC and on I40 and there was a pretty long/steep grade and truck got a little warm. We would love to see the Rockies so just wondering how far I can get before we hit the steep stuff...

Seems like you have a pretty hefty truck. Big trailers get up there all the time. I take US36 from Lyons to get up there. It's one long pull but it's steady. It's also an easier road than US34. US34 is pretty windy and the grade varies a lot more. While you're there you are at the gateway to Rocky Mountain Nat Park. Take the Trail Ridge Road to the Alpine Visitors Center, it's at 11,800' so take it easy when getting out of the car. It's a great drive up to the alpine tundra region. Here's a link to the park - Rocky Mountain National Park | Hiking, Activities & Lodging

We left Sturgis last August and headed for Estes Park and went up on US34 pretty winding and steep in places so took our time with no problems. Parked at Marys Lake Campground on south side of town. Rode the Harley up into Rocky Mountain NP, awesome ride! Leaving Estes we headed down US36 towards Lyons and for sure the better route to take but at that time I had my 2012 F250 6.7 with no engine brake, had to pull over once to let the brakes cool down even in tow haul.

I have a 2012 F-350 6.7 & same trailer you do. Never had a problem going down steep grades with brakes. I drop it into 3rd & holds just fine.

Hi Mike, I think I was probably going a little too fast and when I needed to really slow down for the curves I had to ride them pretty hard, the tow haul had me down in 2nd at times and taching up pretty high, which made me ride em even more. I could see that smoky haze coming out of both the truck and trailer so I pulled over under a shade tree and let them cool down. Have you ever pulled out of Estes Park with your Voltage? It's steep and curvy. I know I'm gonna like the exhaust brake on the F350.

We visited the Jellystone Park near Bloomington, IN in July 2015 with our 5 grandkids range in age from 10 to 4. They have a water park there and the kids had a great time for most of the time. I totally agree with previous post as they are privately owned and ran by teenagers for the summer. Higher cost but most all activities were included in the price.
