Hitting the Road
Getting ready to close down the house in Chicago and hit the road to spend the next 6 months or so in Florida. Kind of hate to leave so early as this is the best time of year in Chicago, however if I don't make an early reservation, I get stuck with a bad site, or no site at all. Only other option is to pay for a site and leave it empty for a few weeks, but being a cheap guy, I'm not doing that. This year, we alarmed the house and have cameras so we're in good shape. Besides, anything with value it with us. Thankfully, with Matthew passing, our timing couldn't be better. Our campsite (John Prince Park in Lantana) survived the storm without too many issues. My only concern is that our new boat, which I haven't even seen yet, is at a marina in Stuart. For the past three days I've tried to reach them by phone. No answer. Not a good sign. The Voltage seems to be in good shape (fingers crossed). Mechanically I went thru the travel maintenance issues yesterday. I have a ton of upkeep stuff (seal lubrication, roof cleaning, etc.) to keep me busy the first week or so down there. Packing and loading is the worst part, as my routine is to go thru the house, room by room and drawer by drawer and pull out the items I want to bring. That is the part I hate, as the house is a mess. Good news is we are in "loading" phase, so we're making progress. Hopefully done today, clean the house tomorrow and hit the road Tuesday. Saturday we'll be "home". Bottom line is I want you "regulars" to monitor the website 24 hours a day until then in case I have a problem and you guys can tell me how to fix it (LOL). Here's to a safe 1,300 mile journey.
