Devils Tower KOA off I-90

If you are traveling along I-90 between Rapid City S.D. and Gillette Wy stop in at this KOA. Devils Tower can't be seen from I-90 but well worth a visit. The campground is just outside the National Monument. Which was the first one back in 1906

We camped there when the kids were little, around 1990. Still have the video and memories! Great place!

Thanks for sharing!!! We are going to Yellowstone next summer and that is on the way. We may plan on stopping for the night.

It looks like your trailer is almost parked at the base..

If in the area you also don't want to miss Mt. Rushmore in Rapid City. They are only a couple of hours apart. You could stop at one on the way up and other on way home. There is a very nice KOA just west a couple of miles from Mt. Rushmore. They have shuttle rides to Mt Rushmore, hay wagon rides, horse back riding all kinds of thing to do.

Probably not. We used to live in Rapid City. A quick check of koa.com shows 7 sites in the Black Hills region, including one called Mt Rushmore, and another called Custer/Mt Rushmore. We lived there for 6 years, the area is beautiful. It can be far more than, "saw that when we passed through." Definitely worth a few days of your time in the region. If your vehicle detaches from your RV, (TT, tow behind, etc) then I would pick one site, and daytrip around in your car. The roads, though scenic, are twisty and hilly, and can be frustrating for a Class A.

The KOA I'm referring to is the Mt. Rushmore one.
Mount Rushmore KOA | Camping in South Dakota | KOA Campgrounds

Didn't have any Close Encounters but they do play the movie every night.
Devils Tower KOA | Camping in Wyoming | KOA Campgrounds

I just posted these in the wrong thread. I highly recommend staying at the Devils Tower KOA if you are in the area. We were traveling from Custer SD to Yellowstone and made a stop here. It was well worth it, plus I got some good pictures.

I owe you a thank you!!! So thank you!!! I would have not gone there if I hadn't read your original post.
We really enjoyed the hike around the base. It had terrific views of the tower and the surrounding area. Then we were able to relax with some great drinks and view from the campsite.
