WE use Pilot, Flying J or Loves. Most have lots of space. Each has mobile apps.

Flying J has specific pumps for RV's that are easy in and out and do not have the LARGE nozzles. Pilot only has the large nozzles in the specific diesel section that will require an adapter. All are more expensive than the local walmart. If you are a good sam member, you will get a discount at the pilot stations.

You could use this also...

Find The Cheapest Truck Stop - TruckMaster Fuel Finder

it's called the truckmaster database. I like it alot... Gives you stops miles from your start... say you have a 250 mile range, it will give you stops that are around 250 miles from your start.

If you use a smart phone. Try “Gas Buddy” from App Store. Very easy to use and you can see gas prices all along your route. Prices are updated by users and are pretty reliable. You can also set your pref for Diesel if that’s what you use.

Thanks for the heads up on pilot fuel prices Frank. I’m new to the road, and learning as I travel. Any suggestions on where the best fuel and fuel price are located? Much Obliged

(my original post is shown twice in this thread, don’t know why)

I use GasBuddy or Waze to find the best fuel prices around me, I also have my bride pull up the satellite view of the station to make sure it has room for me. We typically try to schedule our fuel stops ~250-300 miles apart, so we do a bit of pre-planning prior to leaving for the day. I am not "married" to one particular brand or another, I just want something with plenty of in and out room with outside lane pumps.

Thanks a bunch Aaron! Great information. I’ll just have to plan ahead for my fuel shopping. The internet is an awesome resource.

Like Aaron, I use Gas Buddy also plus this handy little link:

Find The Cheapest Truck Stop - TruckMaster Fuel Finder

BY THE WAY, I'm assuming you use Diesel, Pilot Flying J have RV fueling stations. You need to be aware that there are two sizes of fuel nozzles for Diesel fuel. the regular PILOT stations have the LARGE nozzles ONLY while the FLYING J stations have the "normal" size for RV's and regular diesel tanks. they sell an adapter for the large nozzles but they are MESSY and require you to feed fuel SLOWLY and WEAR RUBBER GLOVES .

On my old 96 F350 I knocked out the plugs in the fuel filler so I could run the big nozzles, nothing like filling up in 3 minutes flat! With my in bed tank I had around 200 gallon capacity,

Knocking out the plug in the fuel filler could cause future problems. It was probably put there to prevent ignorant customers like me from filling with big rig diesel. Years ago I found out truck service stations would dump sump oil in their fuel supply tanks. That "contaminated" diesel caused major problems in diesel cars and light trucks. Have things changed?

It must have changed, my 2011 F350 w/ 6.7 power stroke came from the factory with a big rig filler hole. So does my Tiffin motor home, matter of fact my Tiffin has a filler on both sides so I can even use the satellite pump if I wish.

Never had that problem, but my 7.3 would run just about anything you put in the tank. It loved the B-80 bio-diesel when I could find it, only bad part was having to clean/replace filters when it scrubbed the sludge from the dino diesel out of the system.

Pilot / Flying J Fueling Problems

Took an extended RV Trip down south to California to visit wife’s family for thanksgiving holiday.

My first experience with Pilot/FlyingJ fuel centers didn’t go well. In California pilot/flying j has Environmental pump nozzles that are supposed to be self sealing, and the flexible rubber shroud thing extended almost all the way to near the end of the nozzle

Needless to say, very difficult to use. I could not keep the flow going for more than a few seconds before the overflow sensor shut off the nozzle. I even had the attendant assist me, and he could not get it to work either

So after about 5 gallons of this frustration we gave up. We moved on to an Arco station up the road with no issues fueling up whatsoever. Different pump nozzle
So as far as pilot/flying j for me In California, it’s a no go
