Camping near Grand Canyon

Howdy All! We will be taking the Coleman out to the Grand Canyon area the week(mon thru sat before) of Presidents day. When we camp in the area we always have gone to dog town lake near Williams Az.It is quiet scenic and rugged enough to suit our tastes...well we have just discovered that it will not be open untill May..Does anyone have a suggestion for a place to camp within an hour of the canyon??? we usually try to avoid the koa/resort type places ...remote enough but accessible with our cts19 rd...We appreciate any help that you can offer...otherwise we just might roll the dice and wing it...Thank You!!!

I know this is too late, but love the North Rim much better than the South. Less people & there are all kinds of good dirt roads you can take & be the only one out there. You can also walk right up to the edge without rails like the South side has.

We camped at an interesting place 5 years ago called Pioneer Village in Minden Nebraska. Kind of a quirky museum place. There were some interesting displays and things. Tourist trap kind of place, but we thought it was worth the cheap price to camp and tour the museum.

Sounds great...we just got a mailer from them..we will check it out,Thank You!!! The Niobrara River looks promising as well...We have decided to just take off for a few weeks to somewhere we have never been and see what we discover...The only hard date on the trip is the Riverfest in Wichita at the end of May.....we always try to include a event or destination that is out of our usual comfort zone....cant wait!!!

we camped at Minden last October on our way back from Yellowstone area. Agree, I bet you'll never find another place quite like it.

One of those out of the way dirt roads you can travel on at the North Rim.

That brings back memories, only difference our camper was a little smaller last time we camped at the North Rim. We had a popup and our TV was my '93 Electraglide.

The walkway was just in the concept/design stage, we'll have to go back to see how it looks.
