thejean.....Washington State may be really busy this year, and the camp grounds pretty full, with all the recreational marijuana user tourists trying out the legalization of "recreational" pot use in Washington State. On the other hand the border line ups will be shorter coming into Canada( BC) than going into the US " Washington State". Hehe

Hey folks, me again. Starting to narrow down the route now and am wondering what routes I should take. So far, here is the tentative plan (keep in mind I am trying to keep the daily travel to less than 700km or 450 mi):

Drive from Calgary to Couer D'Alene and spend two nights there.

From Couer D'Alene, drive along I90/I84 to somewhere outside of Portland and camp for 3 nights. Do a day trip into Portland and maybe take in Mt St Helens. Is there a good place to camp to the east of Portland?

From there, drive down to Eugene/Reedsport along the I5 and then begin the trek North again, maybe stopping in Lincoln City for a couple of nights.

From there I would continue along the 101 to Astoria and then possibly up into Olympic National Park for a couple more nights. Then hit up Seattle on the way to Vancouver, where I have to finish as I have to attend a wedding there.

Whaddyall think of that plan?

Another option is instead of heading South at Portland, skip Portland and the Mt Rainer area and straight to Lincoln City for 3 or 4 nights. From there head north to Astoria and then back east again to Mt St Helens area for a couple of nights. From there head up the I5 and camp outside of Seattle somewhere and do a day trip (without camper) into Seattle and then possibly a second day trip up into Olympic National Park. From there, onto Vancouver for the wedding. WOuld that be a better plan? I'm just really uncertain of how much time I need to spend on the coast vs the mountains vs the cities. Unfortunately I only have two weeks but also don't want to be packing up and moving every single night if possible. I'd like a max of 4, maybe 5 camping locations if at all possible.

Sounds good! Be advised that the 101 is not an easy tow road. It can be narrow and last I was through there the condition had deteriorated considerably. Allow adequate driving time through there. It's gorgeous through there so don't rush that part!

What about Mount Rainier? Is it worth spending a bunch of time there? I am thinking of skipping it and going straight to Seattle and staying at a KOA near the city to be able to get to see Seattle. At the moment, I have us camped in Mt Rainier for the two nights with the 2nd day being a day trip into Seattle. Thinki that will be adequate? Or should I cut a day off Olympic National Park (currently staying there 3 nights) and add one to Rainier?
