New to Dutchman

We had a 2013 Heartland Road Warrior 415, but lost it in an electrical fire last month. We loved that big ole rig, even lived in it while we built a house a couple years ago. But, in our search for a new toy hauler, we found a beauty! It's a 2014 Voltage 3970! Fell in love and will be picking it up first of August.
As we bought the Road Warrior new, and did not get an extended warranty, we don't have any experience with extended warranties. Can anyone offer any advice regarding extended warranties? I know that when we pick it up, they will offer one, but I have no idea which company they use. I've read horrid reviews about Good Sam, so that scares me! Any input is welcome!!

Welcome to the forums! Sorry to hear about losing the old one. But glad you found a new one and US!

I live a bit inland from you in the Sandhills of NC.

Debnsteve, Welcome, and good luck with any extended Warranties, I have Good Sam, and haven't had any trouble with it, only used it once and it was ok, but nothing big...I do most of my repairs so the only thing I can say, is don't buy it from a Dealer....A long time ago, I got one from a dealer and then when I sold the RV, I asked for what ever was left, the company told me I had to advise the Dealer, after going around and around, I got a refund, but after the dealer got a cut....for doing nothing....

I have XtraRide. I've used it two or three times. $100 deductible. I've had no issues. Dealers I've talked to say they prefer it to Good Sam. Only caveat is they have to be called first before any work is done. I'd recommend them.

As a general rule I am not a fan of extended warranties. They are full of holes and gotchas. They are written to make money for someone, NOT protect the consumer. I think you would get better results in Vegas.

That being said; demand and read a copy of the actual warranty BEFORE giving them any money. Don't depend on what the salesman tells you or the fancy brochure. They are usually full of requirements and conditions that are going to bite you if you aren't careful.

I think a lot has to do with how handy you are. Aaron can build a motorhome from scratch, while I get messed up on lefty loosey, righty tighty. So far I've had an awning arms replaced, two televisions replaced, and all my valves replaced for a total of $200 out of pocket. Nice thing about XtraRide is no matter how many items you have repaired on a single claim, only one deductible. Right now one of my hydraulic jacks is weeping ever so slightly. I know that will be a pricey repair. Also one of my rain sensor automatic vents is starting to make noise. Together, out of pocket; $100. With me full timing it six months a year, it works for me. Just my personal experience.

Also, it's transferable, making it a great resale option.
