New & Overwhelmed

Hi everyone! We just bought a Denali travel trailer and will pick it up soon. We are new to RVing but not camping. I would appreciate advice on setting up a new RV. What are essentials we need? Towels, pots, etc., storage tips, traveling with dogs. I have the easy part [emoji16]hubby has to learn to tow our new baby. Thanks!
Katie

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!

Everyone's needs/wants are a bit different.

Here is a link to a series of lists you can choose from.

Here are the gotta have basics:
  • Drinking water hose
  • sewer dump hose
  • Adapter Plugs 30-50 amp and 30-15 amp (assuming your unit has 30 amp service)
  • Blocks for leveling, I like Lynx Levelers
  • TP don't waste your money on RV specific stuff, we use Charmin Ultra

Also read up on the Geo-Method for keeping your RV tanks clean, been using it for years with good results.

Don't stress, have fun and if you forget something there is usually a Walmart or Dollar Store nearby for the gotta haves.

Aaron

I am happy for you guys!! Go on a trip near your house and a Wallyworld and a hardware store. That way you can pick up stuff as needed. That is what my wife and I did on our first trip. It worked out well. Also ask from help from other campers they will be more than happy to help you, Most campers are real nice people. Good luck! Have fun! See ya on the road!

For your kitchen items, pots pans, and dishes etc a good thrift store is the way to start.

For your first time out after you get the basics take a short trip and paper and pen and make notes on what you still need.
What mods you need to make inside to make the RV livable for you style

Take you time and enjoy rving.

If not a good sam member might want to consider it as you get some discounts at rv parks and camping world. What for the sales at camping world as it is a pretty good place to get lots of rv stuff. Also Amazon if you know exactly what you want.

Last but not least enjoy and ask questions lots of us her to help.

When you pick up the trailer make sure you have a PDI (pre delivery inspection check list) search for those on this form. Do not accept the rig until everything is fixed.

Don't forget your portable icemaker
Good for your drinks during the day. Empty the ice into a small cooler we keep our canned drinks in when we go to bed at night.. Wake up in the morning with more ice for the cooler, and the rest of the day ice for our beverages...

That's a great idea. We were going to camp in our driveway for a weekend but it makes sense to drive around locally and stop and practice. Thanks for the idea.

A portable ice maker is a necessity for us, we are spoiled having an ice machine at home. We had portable ones prior but they didn't last long. Any recommendations on one that may last a while? Thanks! Katie

Cast Iron....
You NEED cast iron.
At least a Dutch Oven
and a skillet
or 2
Griddles are nice to have
Oh and a Saucepan, can forget that!

These are what live in the camper.

But on the 4 day Holiday weekends.. I bring the 5 gallon bucket.

I would suggest assortment of tools for repairs, lug wrench and some type of jack for changing flat tires. Spare fuses and light bulbs etc..

I had a flat tire last year. After digging out the bottle jack, jackstands and wood blocking and changing out the wheel in 95 degree heat I decided next time to just call AAA and let them do it. Your choice, but having AAA RV plus is helpful.
